Data content

Employees covered by occupational health  (OH) services provided by employers, costs of the services, reimbursements paid out.

Employers are required to arrange for access to OH services for all their employees. The purpose of occupational health care is to combat health hazards and risks arising from work or workplace circumstances and to maintain and promote the safety, health and fitness for work of employees. Kela reimburses employers for part of the cost of providing OH services for employees.

Variables and classifications

• Reimbursement category (Preventive occupational health care and medical care).
  Reimbursement category I includes the costs of preventive occupational health care. Reimbursement category II includes the costs of GP-level medical care and other health care provided in addition to occupational health care.
• Principal service provider. Employers can choose to provide occupational health services out of an OH unit operated independently or in cooperation with other employers or through an OH unit operated by another employer, or they may purchase the services from a municipal health centre, medical clinic or private service provider.
• Time period. Annual-level data are presented.Cost year refers to the year in which the costs for provided services were incurred.
