Families with children / Child maintenance allowance
The report covers child maintenance allowances paid out during the statistical reference period.
Child maintenance allowance is paid for children who do not receive child support from a liable parent. Child maintenance allowance can be paid out at the full rate or at a reduced rate. The full rate is payable for example in situations where the liable parent has failed to pay child support and the confirmed child support is at least equal to the full child maintenance allowance.
The reduced rate is payable for example when the liable parent does pay child support but the child support has been fixed at a rate lower than the full rate of the child maintenance allowance because of the financial circumstances of the liable parent (maintenance allowance supplementary to child support). If child support has been set at an amount lower than the child maintenance allowance for reasons other than financial circumstances, the child maintenance allowance is paid out at a rate equal to the child support (maintenance allowance reduced on other grounds).
