The report contains data on the number of recipients of student financial aid, the amount of aid paid out and the average amounts of aid during the reference period. A recipient of student financial aid is a person who has received study grant, housing supplement or government guarantee for student loan. In addition to regular or retroactive payments, 'Benefit paid out' also includes repayments of student benefits. The average amount of student financial aid (€ per recipient) only takes into account scheduled financial aid payments and the euro amount of the government's student loan guarantees.
Statistical data on recipients of financial aid and on the benefits paid out are compiled per calendar year, per school year, and monthly. The school year starts at the beginning of August and ends at the end of July the following year.
The category of educational institution is determined on the basis of a number linked to the payment transaction. By default, recipients of financial aid are associated with the category of educational institution they were attending at the time of the most recent payment transaction. With the selection "Basis for institution category: All educational institutions", recipients of financial aid are included in all categories of educational institution for which they have payment transactions in the reference period. However, they are only counted once in the total figures.
The category "Educational institutions abroad" includes recipients of financial aid who are completing a degree in a foreign educational institution.
The age of the recipient corresponds to his or her age at the end of the reference period. In the school-year figures, however, age is as of the end of the autumn term.
Recipients of financial aid are included in the statistics on the basis of their municipality of residence. The municipality corresponds to that at the end of the time period selected. In the school-year data, however, the region is that of the end of the autumn term.
